"The Creeps!" Has A Bonus Level!

The Creeps! has been one of my favorite iPhone games since I downloaded it about 6 months ago. I don’t play iPhone games a lot, but when I do I’m usually playing this one. (Toki Tori is another favorite.) Don’t let the crap website fool you (that’s your website, guys? seriously?) — this is a pretty sweet game. And it has a hidden bonus level.

In case you haven’t played it, Creeps is a good example of a tower defense game. If you’ve ever played Desktop Tower Defense, Creeps will feel pretty familiar. In tower defense games, a bunch of enemies are trying to get from point A to point B, and it’s your job to build a bunch of weapons to kill them before they can get there. The “plot” for this game is to protect a poor, defenseless kid cowering in his bed from his nightmares using only every kid’s favorite weapons: laser guns, boomerangs, ninja stars, flash lights, lightning guns, and glue. Building and upgrading the weapons costs money, and killing creeps and destroying terrain gives you money. Buy stuff, kill stuff, rinse, repeat. Simple, fun, addictive.

Anyway, the point is that on my way back from World’s Best Technology 2010 today I discovered that Creeps has a secret level. Sweet. I’m not sure what (if anything) I did to unlock the secret level, but I’ve unlocked (and beaten?) all the levels in all modes (Survival, Endurance, and Door Buster), so that may be the trigger. Also, I’m running Creeps version 1.4.3, in case that’s important.

Anyway, once you’ve beaten all the levels, fire up the app, hit “Start”, and then tap this little triceratops-looking guy on the level selection screen:

He runs away, so you’ll have to be pretty quick. If you get prompted to choose the level difficulty (“Easy”, “Normal”, or “Hard”), you’re all set. Make your choice, and then be ready for some dinosaur-shooting goodness. Here’s what the bonus level looks like:

EDIT: Just beat the bonus level. Had to try 3 times. The last 2 waves are really hard.
